Caroline Schofield is currently in her last 2 weeks of residency in Kilkenny Arts Office. There will be an exhibition opening on the 14th March. The exhibition looks at process. The image shown is a stitched drawing from her life drawings.

Source, an Exhibition of Contemporary Craft

Building Blocks, work in progress for Source

Tara Ní Nualláin is currently preparing work for an upcoming exhibition of contemporary craft. “Building Blocks” (above) features 36 stitched fabric boxes illustrating maps of the Dún Laoghaire Rathdown area. Her work will be shown along side other local craft makers.

“Source” is an exhibition of contemporary craft in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County. It highlights inovative work by new and established craft makers who live, work in or are origionally from Dún Laoghaire Rathdown and has been curated by jewellery designer Angela O’Kelly.

The exhibition opens to the public on the 10th of February running until the 27th of February and is acompanied by a programme of events. Tara will give a demonstration of her work on saturday the 18th from 1:30 pm. For more information see

Seascapes goes to the Craft Garnary

Kniting and Stitching Show opens today

The Kniting and Stitching Show opened its doors today at the Simmonscourt pavillion at the RDS in Dublin and Filament Fibre Artists are showing new work. If you are there drop by the stand and say hello we are located beside the Festival of Quilts stand and the CCOI Seascapes exhibition so there is lots of great work to see.

Filament Fibre Artists Selected for the CCOI Seascapes Exhibition 2011

Three of the filament artists have had work selected for the Crafts Council of Irelands Seascapes exhibition. The work will be on show at this year’s Knitting and Stitching Fair at the RDS in Dublin from the 10th to the 13th of November.

Filament Artists get ready for the Knitting and Stitching Fair at the RDS

Filament artists are preparing for their annual exhibition at the Knitting and Stitching Fair at the RDS. The group will be showing a selection of work including these beautiful “Seaforms” by Lucinda Jacob.

This year’s Knitting and Stitching Fair is set to be the most impressive yet and will form part of the celebration for the Year of Craft 2011. Filament artists will be available
on the exhibition stand throughout the Fair to answer questions about our work.

Members of the group will also exhibit work with the CCOI’s Seascapes exhibition, further information and photos will be posted shortly.

Sculpture in Context 2011

Starting Point in the Conservatory at the Botanic Gardens

This week saw the opening of the annual Sculpture in Context exhibition at the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin Dublin. Filament’s Tara Ní Nualláin is taking part in this year’s show which celebrates ten years in the beautiful surroundings of the botanic gardens.

Her site specific work “Starting Point” features stitched maps of the gardens and surrounding areas encased in Perspex. The piece is located in the Conservatory where it will be on show from the 8^th of September to the 21^stof October.

Prizes for Filament Artists at the RDS National Crafts Competition 2011

Congratulations to Caroline Schofield on winning the first prize in the felting category in the 2011 RDS National Crafts competition for her sculpture “Fault Line”, featuring two felt busts. Tara Ní Nualláin won the IMOCA Applied Arts Residency Award with her Contemporary Embroidery entry “Start Here”.

Both pieces of work will be part of the National Crafts Competition’s travelling exhibition over the coming months at the following locations:

Following the success of our Latitudes Exhibition at Airfield we would like to thank all those who supported the group in preparing for and staging the exhibition in particular the Crafts Council of Ireland and the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council for their financial support and most especially the staff at Airfield for their generosity and patience throughout the project.
