Tara Ní Nualláin’s work at Airfield is primarily concerned with place. She is making a series of mixed media sculptures based on traditional roadside milestones. The glass panels trap mixed media pieces made from paper, carbon paper, fabric, drawing and stitch. The free-standing sculptures will be placed in the formal garden and stand in a circle. Each panel features the GPS co-ordinates of its location making them points by which to judge orientation and direction and making them a starting point for a journey.
In troubled times these sculptures seek to encourage reflection on where we are from and where we are going. The unique and enduring nature of the estate provides the perfect backdrop as the artist endeavours to deal with our desire to mark our passing through the landscape and locate ourselves within it.
